A NON-INFORMATIVE WORLD
Reducing the landscape with a total area of 155,5 m2
A recording of an action at Masthuggstorget in Gothenburg
the 19th of august, 2007, between 17:15 and 18:13.
In which we climb the roof of the warehouse building
and re: paint the six billboards.
2007
Intervention, documented with video, 58:58 min.
Together with John Skoog (documentation by Jonathan Persson).
In this action we climb up to six billboards and paint them white. The procedure is filmed from a disstance of 500 m, and is presented unedited.
The video reminds of a surveillance camera, registrating cars, people and trems slowly passing by and the big crusing ship that docks at the harbour.
As the title suggests, the intervention is reducing parts of the information in the landscape, while the way it is documented reduces the illegal action to a dull view of an empty parking lot. The film indicates that something is happening, but only a very patient viewer becomes aware of what.
A NON-INFORMATIVE WORLD is a sitespecefic work, done during a workshop conserning performances in public space by Stefano Romano. The results was shown as a part of Gothenburg International Biennial for Contemporary Art 2007. The theme of the biennial and the workshop, was re:working dissent. The site was located in between the main exhibition at Röda Sten and Galleri Rotor, where work was shown. If using the local-transportation between these two sites, you would pass the place of the intervention and maybe be relieved with the opportunity to relaxe your eyes on the empty billboards.
